Charity, Twitter and Badges

Charity has always been a core principle of Freemasonry. Individual masons make contributions at local, national and international levels. Freemasonry is actually one of the largest charitable givers in the UK (we contributed almost £50m to charitable causes in 2018 alone).

The causes that Freemasons contribute to a far and wide-ranging, and how they come to the attention of Provinces, Lodges and individual Masons is just as varied; and so is the most recent charitable cause that The Lodge of Dawn has contributed to.

Whilst perusing Twitter via our Twitter account we came across a fellow-Freemason, Steve Blake (@CombatPhot) who is raising money for Brain Tumour Research, through selling Twitter logo badges adorned with the Square & Compass (see below). A large part of the money raised by Steve from the sale of the badges will go to the charity, along with any additional donations made by purchasers.

Seeing these beautiful badges, and the good cause that it supports, we immediately put the call out to the brethren of The Lodge of Dawn, and the following Worshipful Brethren and Brethren purchased them. Hopefully we will see them being proudly worn at our next formal meeting (whenever that may be….);

  • W Bro. David M.
  • Bro. Christian H.
  • Bro. Daren R.
  • Bro. Dave J.
  • Bro. Frank R.
  • W Bro. Graham D.
  • W Bro. Howard B.
  • W Bro. Jeffrey H.
  • Bro. Joe M.
  • W Bro. John L.
  • Bro. Mark G.
  • W Bro. Nigel Z.
  • Bro. Phil F.
  • W Bro. Philip M.
  • W Bro. Raymond D.
  • Bro. Richard S.
  • Bro. Robert P.
  • W Bro. Roy N.
  • W Bro. Simon F.
  • W Bro. Stephen B.

From initial calculations it looks like The Lodge of Dawn have raised around £150 for Brain Tumour Research, and from what Steve has posted on Twitter he is already well on the way to £3000, which is a brilliant result. If you would like to purchase one (or more) of these Twitter badges, contact Steve, or if you would like to donate directly to Brain Tumour Research, please go to their website.

And here are a few more pictures of the badges……
