Freemasonry in Leeds

Freemasonry in Leeds is part of the masonic Province of Yorkshire, West Riding. The Province of Yorkshire West Riding is divided into five ‘areas’ with Leeds being part of Area 5. As well as Freemasonry in Leeds, Area 5 also covers Batley, Castleford, Morley, Pontefract, Pudsey and Wakefield.

The Lodge of Dawn members come mainly from North Leeds, but some are from much further afield. If you are based in Alwoodley, Chapel Allerton, Moortown, Roundhay, Shadwell, Scarcroft, Bardsey, East Keswick, Thorner or the proximity you may want to join us. Two Masonic Halls house over half of these Leeds Freemasons Lodges. ​In total there are 48 Lodges in Area 5, based in nine Masonic Halls and with one Lodge using alternative accommodation.

The Lodge of Dawn holds its meetings at Castle Grove Masonic Hall in Headingley, Leeds (map details) and is the third largest lodge in the Province of Yorkshire, West Riding and the largest that performs regular ceremonies.

Province of Yorkshire, West Riding

Freemasonry in the UK is divided into geographical ‘provinces’. The Lodge of Dawn is located in the masonic province of ‘Yorkshire West Riding’, which is one of the oldest provinces in Freemasonry. Despite its name, the province includes all of West and South Yorkshire as well as large swathes of North and East Yorkshire. In total the Yorkshire, West Riding masonic province covers around 2,350 sq miles, from Bentham in the West to Goole in the East and Ripon in the North to Sheffield in the South.
