Ritual, food and friendship.
Tuesday evening is our weekly practice night here at The Lodge of Dawn, 6511. We usually have some 20 or so in attendance. Ritual is practiced, camaraderie experienced and friendships cemented. It’s what Freemasonry is all about.
With the practice for the forthcoming Junior Master’s Night (see last years report) taking place next door to the main practice the number can sometimes be 24 or so, not bad for a cold February Tuesday evening. With such high numbers the social aspect of the evening is even more worthwhile – just a 15 minute catch up is all you need to chat amongst your fellow brethren and extend the evening a little further.
It has also become customary for some brethren to book a table at a local bar or restaurant after practice. This Tuesday some 14 brethren enjoyed dinner at The Olive restaurant in Chapel Allerton. With Tuesdays not being such a busy night, brethren can often receive good service, with the privacy and space to relax and enjoy their dinner.
Bro Michael Woolfe said: “It was good fun. W. Bro Gary Don kept us entertained with his usual wit and charm. As a very new member, for me, it’s a great opportunity to get to know my fellow brothers outside of the Lodge environment. I really enjoyed it!”
W. Master Mark Gaftarnik was also there. “The meal was top quality at a very reasonable price, staff were very helpful and nothing was too much trouble. I am sure we will return again this year.”
We all know of course that practicing is vital for a good ceremony. However, the social aspect to Freemasonry is equally as important and the perfect way to get to know and enjoy each other’s company. It is also a great opportunity for new members to feel more at home. Moreover, invitations can be extended to those who might be considering Freemasonry and so is the perfect opportunity for brethren to invite guests along as part of an introduction to Freemasonry.
