Back in May 2021 the Lodge of Dawn secured a grant of almost £25,000 from West Riding Masonic Charities Ltd for the building of a 4G AstroTurf MUGA (multi-use games area), for the Chapeltown Youth Development Centre (CFYDC) on Scott Hall Road in Leeds. This was completed later in the year.
Since then the lodge has stayed in close touch with Will, Luthel and the rest of the team at CFYDC. So, with the credit crunch biting hard, when we heard that they had launched a Foodbank to support the local community, called ‘Lets Eat’, the lodge stepped in and started a food collection to help. Since December 2022 we have been collecting donations to buy food with, and regular food collections, which regularly get dropped off at Chapeltown Youth Development Centre.
In addition to the above, the Lodge was delighted, this month, to hear that we had been successful in securing a grant of £2,000 from West Riding Masonic Charities Ltd to further support the cause. Charity Steward, Michael Rose, pictured below dropped in to handover the cheque to Will and Luthel.

Will.Bowler, project leader said, “As project leader for the foodbank I would like to thank the Lodge Of Dawn and all its members for their continued support. Special thanks go to Michael Rose for supporting me with the application and also Eoin Byrne and the other members for their continued fortnightly food donations… especially the cheese and broccoli pasta. Lol. We appreciate it and everyone one of you. Thanks. You do not know how much your support has helped so many of our foodbank clients.”
Charitable giving is a key part of masonic life. You can read more about The Lodge of Dawn’s charitable activity here.
