As part of the ongoing development of The Lodge of Dawn 6511, we have had our crest re-drawn. It’s the same but it has been upgraded to modern graphic standards.
The image that we were using before was a scan of the Lodge medal. As you might expect, some of the detail of the original artwork (which has seemingly become lost in the midst of time) was lost in ‘translation’ into a piece of metal work. A scan of this, in essence, third hand artwork was what we have been using. It served us well, but as technology has progressed so must we.
This redraw allows us to have a much better quality crest to represent us on the Summons, this website, Facebook, Twitter and all other Lodge material, both electronic and ‘real’. And here it is;
Each element of the logo has a symbolism, that we often miss when we simply see the Lodge crest.
The concept of ‘Dawn’ is depicted by two of the three separate scenes shown in the centre of the crest;
- The figure of Moses carrying the Tablets of the Ten Commandments represent the Dawn of Civilisation.
- The rising sun is symbolic of the Dawn of Creation.
- The Temple signifies the Dawn of Masonry.
The Square and Compasses super-imposed over the sun is ‘masonry universal’.
There are two white roses of Yorkshire, to show where we are from, with a laurel wreath binding the whole together.
The two columns are Doric and Corinthian in style, representing the columns that stood on either side of the entrance to King Solomon’s temple. They are surmounted with the globes Celestial and Terrestrial on top. The celestial globe symbolises the spiritual part of human nature and the terrestrial globe symbolises the material side.
The motto ‘FIAT LUX’ translated means ‘Let there be Light’, which all masons will recognise.
The infill of the centre of the logo represents the tessellated floor of every masonic temple, and the number 6511 is the official number of the Lodge of Dawn in the records of UGLE.
