Russell Graham looking young at 50.

On the evening of Wednesday November 26th we enjoyed both the celebration of Russell Graham’s 50th Lodge year along with a special visit of Worshipful Brother Fraser Mcpherson, Assistant Provincial Grand Master. There were 70 in attendance including 29 visitors from 10 Lodges.

Once ritual was complete we could all enjoy Russell’s special occasion.

The evening began with a summary of what the world looked like in 1974. A pint of beer cost 12p, David Essex was at number one with “I’m gonna make you a star,” Lodge annual subscriptions were £27 and Lord Lucan went missing.

Graham was initiated on November 14th 1974. He was Worshipful Master in 1991/92.

As part of the evening and within the Temple, WB Fraser Mcpherson interviewed Russell, who recalled his many happy and memorable years at The Lodge of Dawn 6511. He candidly admitted that on occasion he prepared the Temple during his lunch break and often (and inadvertently) volunteered for various roles in his aim to eagerly climb the ladder. The interview finished with the presentation of his 50th year certificate.

Although a quietly spoken man, Russell is a great storyteller and well respected solicitor. In retirement he enjoys the love and admiration of his children and 6 grandchildren.

And to cap it all, Russell’s son, Brother Richard Graham (Loyalty), and nephew Brother Philip Myers (Dawn) were present to witness the celebrations. So it really was a family affair.

And the icing on the cake was a magnificent Festive Board where more than £320 was collected for charity.
